California's attorney general and Energy Commission filed suit against the US administration and Invenergy over a proposed $111 million buyout of Invenergy's offshore wind lease in the Morro Bay Wind Energy Area. The state argues that cancellation would damage its offshore-wind plans and associated port, transmission, supply-chain and workforce investments. This filing follows the state's earlier notice of intent to sue.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta and the California Energy Commission have sent a notice of intent to sue over the federal agreement to buy out Invenergy?s offshore wind lease in the Morro Bay Wind Energy Area. The state says cancelling the lease would undermine California?s offshore wind plans, including its 25 GW by 2045 target, and jeopardise investments in ports, transmission, supply chains, and workforce development.

The California Energy Commission said California sent a notice of intent to sue the U.S. Department of the Interior over its agreement with Golden State Wind LLC, arguing the lease buyout threatens offshore wind development, port investment and clean-energy planning off California's Central Coast.

Invenergy said it will conclude four US offshore wind leases, receive a partial refund of capital paid to the government and redirect investment toward power projects it believes can be delivered faster, including geothermal and gas-fired generation.
