The UK government has granted development consent for the shared transmission infrastructure serving the Morgan and Morecambe offshore wind farms. The approved scheme includes offshore and onshore export cables, landfall works, substations and grid-connection equipment, removing a major planning hurdle for the two Irish Sea projects.

The Crown Estate has launched a streamlined tender for a new developer to build and operate the up to 1.5 GW Morgan offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea. Rights could be awarded by the end of 2026; the project already has consent for its wind farm, a NESO grid connection agreement and a pending transmission consent decision.

Belfast Harbour said its 2025 annual report highlights a GBP100 million agreement with JERA Nex bp to support offshore wind deployment through the port, alongside continued investment in deepwater infrastructure and wider trade capacity in Northern Ireland.

The Crown Estate said its marine portfolio grew to 56 GW of current and potential offshore wind capacity, with plans to invest up to GBP400 million in UK offshore wind supply chains while preparing a new Morgan site tender and advancing future leasing rounds.

Belfast Harbour said the Mona and Morgan joint ventures committed more than GBP100 million to lease its D1 terminal for assembly and marshalling of wind turbine components, supporting up to 3 GW of planned Irish Sea offshore wind capacity.

The Crown Estate said it intends to launch a competitive tender process for the Morgan offshore wind site, aiming to bring the site back to market and award it to a developer in late 2026.
