Nordlicht I

Vattenfall reports that offshore foundation work is under way at Germany's Nordlicht I project. The Nordlicht I and II cluster will total about 1.61 GW across 112 turbines, with commissioning planned in 2028 and 2029. The company describes the seabed surveys, environmental studies, manufacturing and specialist coordination behind delivery.

Vattenfall says offshore construction has started at the Nordlicht offshore wind cluster after the first monopile for Nordlicht I was installed in the German North Sea on 1 July. The company says the cluster combines Nordlicht I and Nordlicht II and is expected to deliver about 6 terawatt hours of electricity a year once fully commissioned. Vattenfall also says DEME is handling foundation and transition-piece transport and installation, with major components supplied by EEW in Rostock and CSWind in Aalborg. The projects are scheduled to become operational in 2028 and will use partially low-emission steel in turbine towers to reduce carbon footprint.

Vattenfall said the first monopiles and transition pieces for the Nordlicht I offshore wind farm were completed ahead of schedule, marking early progress on the 1.6 GW Nordlicht cluster before offshore construction begins in German North Sea waters later this year.
