Electricity system
Algeria's production-transmission system is coordinated by a single Electricity System Operator under Law 02-01. CREG regulates electricity and gas markets, network access, authorisations and consumer protection, while Sonelgaz group companies operate much of the generation and network infrastructure.
Grid context
The System Operator balances generation and consumption and coordinates the production-transmission system. Renewable generators connect under the national electricity framework and CREG authorisation arrangements across the interconnected north, the In Salah-Adrar-Timimoun system and isolated southern networks.
