Electricity system
The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad is the principal public electricity utility and transmission owner. Its Centro Nacional de Control de Energia operates the national electricity system, while ARESEP regulates public electricity services.
Grid context
Large generators connect through ICE's national transmission system, while ICE and other public, municipal and cooperative distributors serve consumers. The hydro-led system also integrates geothermal, wind, bioenergy and a smaller utility-solar fleet.
