Typical offshore wind consenting timescale: 36-72 months.
Grid Controller of India Limited (GRID-INDIA, formerly POSOCO) operates the National Load Despatch Centre and five Regional Load Despatch Centres. Central Transmission Utility of India Limited (CTUIL) plans and coordinates the inter-state transmission system. MNRE leads national renewable-energy policy; NIWE is the nodal agency for offshore wind resource assessment and development facilitation.
CTUIL coordinates planning and access to the inter-state transmission system, including connectivity and General Network Access. Offshore wind development involves MNRE and NIWE, alongside the relevant transmission and system-operation bodies. Gujarat and Tamil Nadu are the principal areas examined in the national offshore wind programme; project-specific grid connection and offshore development approvals remain distinct requirements.
