MARA (Maritime Area Regulatory Authority) established 2023 to manage offshore Maritime Area Consents (MACs). ORESS (Offshore Renewable Energy Support Scheme) auction mechanism. Grid reinforcement via North-South interconnector.

Grid context

EirGrid manages offshore grid connection in Ireland as TSO, with a grid connection offer required as a precondition for eligibility under the ORESS offshore tender scheme. Grid capacity in the Irish system is constrained by its small size and island geography, and connection offer management is a known risk for the offshore pipeline. Reinforcement at onshore landing points on the east and west coasts is a live planning consideration.
